Accommodation in Nepal

Home Stay: live as paying guest

If you want to live the Nepalese way and habituate Nepalese culture, the best way is to stay at home in concert with Native family. Unique Adventure International has a well-experienced and multilingual team that can support you for arranging a suitable host family as well as a placement for your convenience.

The homestay program allows all visitors who are willing to stay in Nepali families to stay as paying guest. Guests shall have to eat in their kitchen whatever (of course a hygienic meal) the family eats, shall live in their guest rooms and be involved together in their celebrations like birthday, holy rituals and marriage ceremony.

The homestay program is suitable for students, family tourists and anyone who are willing to live in Nepal. This program is even helpful to those, who are eager to learn Nepali or other local languages, cultures or a special ritual with the natives. A homestay program is the easiest way to get pleasure from foreign culture by sharing your own culture, traditionsand experiences.

During the stay, a guest can select a single or double room and also has the option to choose a B/B plan, half board, or self-catering. Rooms are simple, probably with no attached bathrooms. Average Nepali family starts their day by cleaning up their home, which is especially done by mother, daughter or daughter-in-law. Here, you will also have the opportunity to learn Nepalese cooking styles and food recipes.

Some of the trekking trails are developed to promote homestay programs. While trekking on those trails, the trekker/traveler can stay at local houses. The purpose of these programs is to accommodate visitors only for one or two nights, where home stays are an alternative to 'hotel & lodge' tea house treks.

However, some homestay programs in urban and sometimes rural areas offer accommodation facilities for a long time. We have foreign citizens living in the home stay longer than a month. It all depends on your wishes and needs. Unique Adventure International is always there to make all these arrangements.

Tea House Accommodation

In the Nepalese tourism sector, for decades, people have used the term ‘tea house’ for small restaurants with accommodation facilities. These facilities are common along the side of high-altitude trekking trails. The Nepalese use of English translates restaurant or eating place as ‘hotel’ and ‘lodge for a sleeping place. Especially when travelling in the hills, you can eat in a hotel, but beds may not be available, while a lodge always offers accommodation.

Popular trekking routes in Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang regions have adequate numbers of ‘Hotel & Lodge’. The term ‘Hotel & Lodge’ is popularly used to avoid all this semantic confusion, whereas people use hotel, lodge, and teahouse interchangeably. In general, almost all trailside restaurants and lodges offer both food and accommodations. Popular trekking routes have well-maintained and reasonably comfortable tea houses, often called hotels & lodges. The ‘Tea House Trek’ itineraries are designed to accommodate trekkers in the available tea houses along the trailside. Since Tea House arranges your food and accommodation locally, you can schedule your own program and have your own pace. As you are dependent on the facilities provided by Tea House, it is wise to choose heavily trekked and better-known regions to travel to.

Camping Accommodation

Camping accommodation is provided during camping treks. The camping trek is a fully supported trek done away from the normal trekking routes. This type of accommodation is particularly provided during mountaineering or while trekking in those areas where teahouse lodging is not easily available. Camping accommodation is a real nomadic experience. We provide you with complete equipment (2-man tents with comfortable mats, community tent, kitchen equipment and foods).  Tents are so luxurious that Sherpas from Unique Adventure international put up at the end of a day during the trek.

Our kitchen crew is supported by a well-trained cook, kitchen boy and porters. The team leader handles the whole trekking program. Local fresh vegetable available in the surrounding area are used to prepare meals. Sometimes meals also include canned foods. You have to follow previously arranged program and schedule during the whole trek.
