The Silver Light in Himalayan Adventures:
Unique Adventure International’s 25 Years
“The world is a book. He who stays at home reads only one page.” St. Augustine
Driven by this vision of St. Augustine, Unique Adventure International Pvt. Ltd., established in 1998, celebrates its milestone journey of 25 years. The company, based in Nepal, has been providing services in Trekking, short Hikes, Peak Climbing, Mountain Expeditions, Mountain Biking, Motorcycle trips and a spectrum of adventure services in the Nepal Himalaya. Our journeys are not only limited to Nepal, but extend over India, Bhutan, and Tibet as well. We are well known for operating Mountain expeditions, 4WD Overland Excursions and Jungle Safaris inside Nepal and throughout the southeast region of Asia.
The journey was not easy to reach where we are today. This reputation is built with the team’s unwavering vigor and enthusiasm towards mountain tourism and mountaineering, and the satisfaction of our clients; hence, our services are built around it. Unique Adventure, over the years, has been built on the foundation of core philosophies that center around offering the best services to our clients and offering the safest and most secure involvement to our guides and staff while being responsible towards our nature, culture and environment.
We constantly seek to provide trips in a league of its own. We are always trying to create a difference to the best of our ability. We try to create an environment for our guests to explore nature and its wonders. The experience of ancient religious beliefs and rich mountain culture is new and meaningful when visiting Nepal.
We are confident in our systematic planning in peak seasons to provide you with an authentic experience. We desire to soak our clients in the rich culture of the places we visit. We try to create a balance between routine sightseeing and real contact with local people and families.
Since mountaineering has always been the foundation of our expertise from the beginning of our company, our vision has always been to show you the real Himalayan world for what it is; we do not just pass by some harsh isolated spots that would otherwise be ignored by others; because this helps you to understand the beauty within certain remote regions where local people live by traditions unknown to the rest of the world.
The first expedition that our company hosted was the Mount Pumori (7,161m) expedition. Pumori, meaning "the Mountain Daughter" in the Sherpa language, was named by George Mallory. "Pumo" means young girl or daughter, and "Ri" means mountain in the Sherpa language. Climbers also refer to this mountain as the daughter of Everest. Since then, we have been hosting expeditions in Manaslu (8,163m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Everest (8,849 m), and Shishapangma (8,027m). The first peak-climbing expedition was on Pisang Peak (6,091m) in 2002. We have since then hosted 5,000 treks and expeditions so far, and among them, 300 to 400 were purely climbing expeditions in high mountains. One of our most sensational achievements as an organization was getting New Zealand’s oldest woman to summit Everest in 2011. Unique Treks had managed her entire journey from arriving to the summit of Everest.
Since inception, Unique Adventure International has hosted a wide spectrum of treks and expeditions with the utmost commitment to the safety and security of our clients and their experiences. We are peculiarly proud to state that, so far, there hasn’t been a single case of accident or tragedy with Unique. Our responsiveness to clients and dedication to their safety are what have gotten us to 25 years of adventure. Because of our adventure operation module, which involves prompt helicopter rescue services in case of accidents, we have been one of the safest trek and expedition operators in Nepal.
The name itself suggests, we are different from existing business operators. Rather than just promoting regular and mainstream adventures in the mountains and base camp treks, we inspire our clients to explore new and off-beaten trails and enjoy the wilderness in Nepal. Some of our most popular trek packages include, Amphulapcha, Tashi Lapcha passes, Annapurna circuits, and other hidden gems in the Nepal Himalaya. These adventures are considered to be the most technical yet highly rewarding experiences in Himalayan endeavors.
Being a responsible business operator is not only limited to maximizing profits and building loyalty among customers but also has an equally important role in the community. We have been involved in social work, humanitarian aid, and several philanthropic events. During the 2015 earthquake, we provided aid to needy people by assisting in physical recovery missions and offering financial support. We provided support to guides, support staff, and their families from the affected area, helping them find at least a temporary settlement in the time of such a crisis.
Having spent 25 years in the industry, we have been part of multiple pivotal changes in the tourism and mountaineering sectors of Nepal. One of our key involvements was in the execution of the world’s highest cabinet meeting held in Kalapathhar, right below Mt. Everest, along with then Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and 23 other cabinet ministers. The meeting was held to highlight the negative impact of global warming on Mount Everest and the Himalaya. On World Environment Day, we actively participate in plantation work and frequently in multiple international ecotourism forums. Langtang Marathon, an event, organized by the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), provided financial and physical assistance.
We are recognized by national and international agencies, and we are affiliated with different organizations like, TAAN, NMA, PATA, NTB, KEEP, and ATTA. These organizations are working for better tourism in Nepal, and we are proud to be associated with them.
These 25 years have been a huge learning experience for Unique Treks as well as us personally. At this point, we have become more experienced, more knowledgeable, and even more responsible to our clients. On this special year of marking 25th anniversary of Unique, we would like to welcome all our dear customers and visitors to a new adventure in the Nepal Himalaya.
