| Jalamukhi Temple Trek |
The area lies on the western ridge of
Kathmandu, is situated in a very beautiful location. The temple
of goddess Jalamukhi is the main attraction of the area.
Everyday many devotees visit the temple and offer worship and
offerings to the goddess. The tinkling of bells and the singing
of hymns by the devotees make the environment spiritual. The
temple takes festive looks during Bada Dashain, Fagu Poornima
and Panchami.
The myth behind the construction of the Jalamukhi temple is very
interesting. It is said that the statue of the goddess was found
at a well near Sunkhani village. On the same night, the goddess
instructed some of the villagers on their dream that she wished
to be seated at a high place. So obeying the mother goddess’
wish, the villagers constructed the temple at a high place and
thus established the statue of the goddess there.
The local people have great faith on Goddess Jalamukhi. Local
villagers believe that all disasters and calamities would ease
away once group worship of mother goddess is performed by all
villagers. Devotees also sacrifice goat, buffalo and cocks at
the temple. It is believed that the goddess fulfills the wishes
of the devotees once sacrifices are made. Similarly, the local
people to conduct various social and religious activities like
marriage and other religious functions also use the temple
premise. Besides, the Jalamukhi temple, historical Gorkha
palace, temples of Gorkha Kalika and the Gorakhnath are also the
famous religious sites of this area.
Since the area is located at a gorgeous locality, the area
offers magnificent views of the towering peaks. The view of
Manaslu, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Larkye Himal, Lamjung Himal and
other mountains of the Annapurna range can be seen from this
area. Likewise, the view of the raging Budhi Gandaki River, the
wide Salyantar valley and the twin Ganga Jamuna fall help one
get refreshed. On the way one can enjoy the beauty of nature,
the raging rivers, dense forests, chirping of birds and
encounter with wild life. In the same way, one can experience
the culture and lifestyle of people from different communities
like Gurung, Magar, Tamang, Brahmin and others. |
