Annapurna Base Camp Trek
(Sanctuary) |
 |
|
This is one of the most beautiful treks that combine easy walking with majestic scenery and a mix of cultures unmatched by any other treks in Nepal. The trail starts from lowland villages and rice terraces deep into the Annapurna Himal. As you gradually climb uphill, the peaks of Annapurna south and Hiunchuli emerge from behind the foothills. Pastures and cultivated fields soon give way to deep forests of oak, bamboo and rhododendron. The trail finally stumbles across moraines and reaches Annapurna Sanctuary from where you will see undeniably beautiful and unimaginable 360 degree views of the Annapurna mountain ranges. |

WHAT THEY SAY? |
ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP TREKKING
28 NOV 09 TO 12 DEC 09
"For on behalf of all my friends, I would like to inform you that we have a very wonderful time in Nepal, especially during our trekking trip.
Thank you for assigning Arun to be our trekking guide, Jagendra, Pawan, Nawaraj and Raj to be our porters. All of them are very friendly and helpful people. Throughout the trip, we joked, teased and made fun of each other. Of course, my friends and I did play a part, we are rather chatty and playful (or at least 5 of us are, the other 3 are not so crazy as the 5 of us), thus it did break the ice between us and the guide/porters. I do not think Ive seen any other trekking groups who joked/talked with our guide/porters the way we did.
Arun is a very cheerful person, he is always joking with us. Fun as he may be, he was serious when he told us that we must highlight to him if we were not feeling well that was when we have just reached MBC, going to ABC the following day.
Arun is also a responsible and helpful person. He would always discuss with me on any change in the itinerary this was necessary as sometimes we need to change it when we were too slow or some of us were not feeling well. Thanks to him, we went to the hot spring which was not part of the itinerary. Arun also helped my 2 friends to carry their bags when they were not feeling well or when we were going up-slope. He is attentive to our needs, be it, for hot water or hot shower etc. Everyday, he would checked with us whether we were happy with our meals, our rooms etc.
As a guide, Arun does look after the well beings of the porters. He is caring towards the porters. When we reached a rest station/stop (i.e. guest house), after offering us our drinks, he would also make sure his porters got theirs. There was once when Pawan got a leg cramp, Arun helped to rub Pawans legs to relieve the muscles and also to lessen Pawans load by carrying 1 of the bags. When Rajs foot was injured, he also offered to lessen his load. Every morning, he would help 1 or 2 of the porters to tie the bags. During the trip, he would also play/joke with the porters, especially with Nawaraj.
Jagendra is like a 2nd guide to us. As he knows the trekking route, most of time he is in front, leading us to the destination Arun is normally behind us (i.e. the last person) as he needs to help some of us who were slower. Although Jagendra is a person of few words, he is a very attentive and helpful person. He is always there to lend us a helping hand (even though he was carrying 2 of our heavy bags) when the steps are too high/slippery or when certain place is quite steep. He would also help Arun to make sure we got our meals, hot drinks etc. When Arun has to move ahead of us (to get to the guest house before us), Jagendra would always be there for us.
Pawan, Nawaraj and Raj are also very friendly and cheerful - Raj was always entertaining us with his dance and Nawaraj with his laughter. Pawan is rather shy but always giving us his sunny smile.
As far as the accommodation is concerned, the guest houses along the trekking route are within my expectations. As for the hotels, we prefer Hotel Kantipur as compared to Hotel Manang though both are 3-star hotels, Hotel Kantipur is much newer and nicer.
All of us were 1st time trekkers in Nepal and the services provided by the guide and porters were beyond our expectations! They made the trek fun and interesting despite the long hours and distance covered. Also, we must attribute the success of our trek to teamwork; where everyone put down our differences, put in effort to do our part and complete the trek, guided by an experienced guide and his team of helpers who made sure we were safe and had fun. Well done!
On the whole, we have a memorable and wonderful trip which we will always remember. I hope to go for more trekking trips in the future.
Once again, thank you for everything, including meeting us and sending us off. These small gestures do make a difference. We will definitely recommend our friends to use your service if they are going Nepal for trekking".
Best Regards
Eng Some & friends
